SYNOPSIS
Feyre spends a month or so in Spring Court with people she deems her enemies- Tamlin, Ianthe, Jurian and two other Hybern daemati. She is to gain as much information as possible about Hybern’s plan before she returns home to the Night Court. Tamlin buys into her feigned love until she turns everyone she can against him and makes a run for it with Lucien, leaving Ianthe’s mind shattered. Now the Night Court wants to unite all of Prythian’s armies to defeat Hybern. What could possibly happen?
MY RECAP AND REVIEW
Okay, this book got me. I’m fully invested in this series and most of the characters now. If you’ve read my review of the first and second books, you’d know I am not a fan of Feyre and of the writing choices made that tainted Tamlin’s character. I have mostly accepted these changes for what it is, even if I don’t like it and think Feyre was just as bad for Tamlin as he was for her. That’s why they’re not mates, I guess. I still think Feyre could’ve handled it better and not villainized him the way she did, (the writer’s choice).
This book shows the aftermath from the situation at the Cauldron and Feyre’s sisters being turned Fae. Feyre creates havoc on Tamlin’s court, which was a personal vendetta more than anything and also unnecessary which she eventually admits.
Elain is heartbroken, as she was to marry a human who was leading the fight against Fae. Lucien is like a puppy dog, wanting her affection but giving her space. Nesta is secretive and stoic, only showing her thoughts and emotions when necessary.
I really like Rhysand in this book. I see why people are always fangirling over him. He’s probably one of the more nuanced characters. Tormented, powerful, and arrogant yet humble and sympathetic.
This book is less Feyre focused, though she is the main narrator. We see things through her eyes, but this book is about preparing for the war with the King so that’s the big focus. We also see more of the side characters- Lucien, Elain, Mor, Armen, Azriel, Nesta, Cassian and Rhysand and even high lords of the other courts.
My favorite part of this series are the inner circle and that remains the case in this book. They all care for each other deeply and it’s nice to see it play out. Also, there’s more interesting action scenes in this book than the two previous ones and that kept me entertained.
SPOILERS AHEAD- SKIP TO OVERALL
Mor is wrong for what she’s doing to Azriel. It’s her prerogative when and who to come out to, but she should at least be honest about not being interested in him the same way he is interested in her. Not rejecting him leaves hope, especially because she does love him and it shows. It can be hard to differentiate between someone showing you romantic and platonic love when you’re in love with that person. My heart hurt for Azriel and I got emotional.
Jurian and Tamlin being against Hybern isn’t surprising given their stories. Again, I wish Tamlin was given more of the benefit of the doubt. He’s done shitty things but I still think his intentions weren’t horrible.
I wish we got to see more of what Feyre saw in the mirror. I get that she had to love her shadow side too but I’m like what did you see exactly? What do you consider to be your mistakes? I have really grown to enjoy Rhysand and Feyre together. They’re cute. I’ll admit it.
Her dad showing up at the end with ships, I don’t know how that makes sense. How did he find all of this out? How did he know about the queens? Did I miss something or is that another piece I just need to accept for what it is? I was still emotional seeing him die and reading Cassian crawl to Nesta was overwhelming.
I love that Nesta and Elain were the ones to take down the King. I love Cassian and Nesta’s relationship and I hope it blossoms into something in the next book.
Rhysand dying destroyed me. I cried. I was heartbroken because this on top of everything else? It was too much. More tears fell. I’m glad he survived and that the others brought him back.
A part of me is glad Amren survived too. I like a relatively happy ending and that the band gets to stay together.

OVERALL
I hate to admit it, but I really did enjoy this book. I had to accept things I didn’t like in the series in the previous books, but because I moved past it, this one kept my interest. If you told me this series would make me cry after i finished the first book, I wouldn’t believe you.
I give it a 4 out of 5 stars. It is my favorite book of the series so far, and to be honest I think it’s because it’s less centered around Feyre, lol. I’m excited to see what happens next and I’m hoping to get more Nesta and Cassian.
