RECAP AND REVIEW

This is the third book in a paranormal romance series. My review is attached for the first and second books here.

Unlike the others, this book has different perspectives, showing each of the bond’s thoughts at random part throughout the book. We even get to see the perspective of Oli’s bond, who is its own entity inside of Oli.

This book starts off with the action and backstory I’ve been itching for. We see first hand some of the torture Oli went through and how resilient she was. She knew the camps and its jailers, as well as what to expect, and how to get out.

We also see more of Oli and her bond at work. Oli’s bond takes the driver seat at times, and reading its perspective and the way it views each Bond, with nicknames, provides some insight into how her Bond operates and what exactly it is. It took me embarrassingly long to be able to decode who was who though (personal problem).

Through Gabe’s perspective, we see a little bit of his relationship with his mom. I wonder if that will come back up later, or if it was a way to show another reason why Gabe’s drawn to some of Oli’s qualities- his mom is the opposite- though I also feel like Gabe is unsympathetic, even with the time that passed.

The main plot points I take away from this book are:

1. Oli bonding with two of her unbonded at different times. I was pleasantly surprised by the second one, and it was nice to see their relationship change after the fact.

2. A spicccyyy scene (threesome)

3. More Nox brooding, except this time it’s clear that his brooding comes from deeper trauma (not an excuse, just an explanation). What that trauma is hasn’t been dived into.

4. The traitor from the end of book 2 explaining themselves. It took like half of the story for it to happen, but I’m not mad at the explanation. I find his character annoying though and he’s one of my least favorite now.

5. Sage learning more about her Bond group.

6. A sabotage occurs, revealing another traitor.

The only thing I don’t get is Oli’s hesitancy to bond in some situations and not in others. Obviously, it’s her body and she can do what she wants, so if it’s because she wants to in the moment, that’s one thing. But from the standpoint of being afraid of her power growing, I’m a little confused. Is it just that her desire overcomes her fear in certain moments more than others?

OVERALL

Overall, I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars. The action, spice, and reveals in this book are what I’ve been waiting for in the series. It’s fun to see Oli’s relationships with her bonds deepen and change, and I’m very curious to how Nox and Oli will work out their issues and bond.

As always, this one ends on a cliffhanger that makes me itch to pick up the next book.
