Wash Day Diaries by Jamila Rowser, Robyn Smith (Artist), and Bex Glendining (Colorist)

SYNOPSIS

This graphic novel consists of five interconnected, short stories between four best friends living in the Bronx.

RECAP AND REVIEW

This is a graphic novel where we see a friend’s groups different and brief perspectives in their day to day.

The illustrations and color themes were eye catching and there was something about seeing their hair care practices highlighted in their day to day that made me love it.

I also enjoyed the stories within it.

Potential spoilers if you want to go in blind:

One of them discusses what seems to be depression and the discussion regarding taking medication happens in real life. I just hope it doesn’t encourage anyone who needs them not to take them.

Another story is about a woman dodging her ex and focusing on her career.

Another is about how a woman who is casually dating and met someone she clicked with, while being in a situation with someone else.

Another is about a woman going to visit her grandmother who has dementia or something equivalent.

OVERALL

Overall, I give this a 5 out of 5 stars. I loved seeing them navigate their lives, friendships, romantic situations, careers, and hair and I want more!
