RECAP AND REVIEW
This is the second volume out of 7 so far with the 8th to be released in May. My review for the first is here.
There’s a lot of mini storylines going on in this one. We meet Minthe, who Hades had a situation with before the night Persephone was left in his car. Her frenemy situation with another character was entertaining. We also see her being jealous and trying to regain control in her situation with Hades.
Persephone is set to intern with Hades because of Hera’s meddling. Though they’ve spoken, they haven’t seen each other much since the night she slept over. She’s attending classes and struggling with her confidence, especially after what she went through. She also can’t stop thinking about Hades.
Hades is trying to decide what he wants. Should he try things with Minthe or pursue Persephone, even though there’s an age gap? (There’s a conversation or two highlighting the age gap and how he’s weird for it, but the book simultaneously is about their love story, so I don’t get the point of adding it in, unless in the end this is a relationship we aren’t supposed to root for. If in the story they say it’s weird, then it feels weird, to me. I guess this is a case where I’m not applying my real-life human opinions and feelings to a fictional story about gods).
There may be more that happens that I’m forgetting, but if you enjoy the first one, this one is similar. I liked it a little less, but it does measure up.
It left on another cliffhanger and I will be reading it to know what happens next.
OVERALL
Overall, I give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars. It’s been a while since I finished it, so I can’t remember everything, but I still enjoyed the modern approach and found myself laughing. I’m invested at this point and want to know what’ll happen next.
