RECAP AND REVIEW

Thank you NetGalley, the author, and Bonsil Press for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a cozy and quirky fantasy book told in the third person, mainly from Pearly’s perspective. It’s going to be a trilogy!

In her current life as a soul in the underworld, Pearly has what’s seen as an undesirable job in waste management, clearing out bad energy, while her soulmate is being honored and leveling up by afterlife standards.

This book was lighthearted. I loved the the world and was interested in being immersed in. The story becomes about Pearly becoming a soul guide to three humans, unbeknownst to them.

I liked the three humans and found their stories interesting, but I ultimately think the main character’s journey wasn’t for me. Her thing is to ask for forgiveness instead of permission, which was fun in some parts.

However, in the end, her actions had little to no consequences, which made the story pretty low stakes. I also didn’t believe much that there was character growth, as the story suggests, though I think there are some gems about life and love in the story.
