Restore Me (Deluxe Edition) by J.L. Seegars (New Haven #1)

SYNOPSIS

Sloane and Dominic end up working on the same project together, which would be fine if they got along. Dominic is her late husband’s best friend and despises her, at least that’s what she thinks. When he saves her from a situation in the club, she starts to look at him differently.

What could happen?

RECAP AND REVIEW

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for an arc!

It’s a re-release!

This is the first book in a romance series, told in the first person of both Dominic and Sloane.

They “hate” each other. Dominic is harsh to keep her at a distance and Sloane matches his energy. Until one night, things change between them.

Sloane is relearning how to date after her loss. She feels guilty about moving on and has sworn not to remarry, but life has other plans.

Dominic is struggling with a secret he’s held onto for years. He knows what, or should I say who, he wants and knows he can’t have it, so he does what he can to move on.

Dominic and Sloane’s relationship is steamy and emotional. The physical attraction was clear and it was cool seeing them learn how to communicate with each other and grapple with their feelings and their shared loss.

I would say their relationship develops quickly, but the book feels slower placed. There’s flashbacks throughout the book, showing Sloane’s relationship with late her husband and giving us insight into why Dominic feels how he feels. Some of it worked for me, some of it didn’t.

It’s really sweet how Sloane’s late husband’s family still embraced her. It was probably my favorite part of the story. I really enjoyed Sloane, Dominic, and Mal’s dynamic and am interested in reading Mal’s story!

I wish we got less spicy scenes and more of them connecting in other ways. Sloane’s feelings and attraction also seemed to develop abruptly and it would’ve been cool to see what made her feel that way.

Read for:

😇 Late husband’s best friend

😇 Secret hook ups

😇 Spicy scenes

😇 Forced proximity

😇 He falls first and hard

😇 Possessive MMC

OVERALL

Overall, I give this a 4 out of 5 stars. There are parts of this book I LOVED (I love me some jealous main characters) and parts of it that dragged on. If you like spicy books and possessive MMCs this is for you!
