This book was a cozy YA story that surprised me with themes about life.

Darling is a fairy living in a Guardian’s world, who wants to help humans find their happily ever afters by getting the position on the Mortal Outcome Council. Calamity is a Misfortune who steers humans into a safe and ordinary life and wants the same position on the council to help humans in his way.

I really enjoyed the world building and was glued to the competition between the two of them on how to best serve Lucy. I wasn’t sure how it would all get resolved and was pretty content with how it ended, though it felt like one of them had more of a leg up.

The romance was between the two main characters was cute . Parts of it felt fast paced and instant-lovey, but by the end it all made sense to me.

My favorite thing about it was the way the different outlooks on life were discussed and talked about. It led me to self reflect.
