RECAP AND REVIEW

Thank you to NetGalley, Atria Books, and the author for an arc!

Out now!

This is currently a standalone rom com told from the three perspectives of the bride, her sister, and her maid of honor. All three of them are going through different things and Natalie and Olivia both have complicated relationships with Marigold though they do love her and want the best for her.

This book was MESSY. There are a few storylines going on and it kind of felt like three mini books in one that overlapped each other. I didn’t really like these characters and still I found myself invested in their journeys.

My favorite storyline was Olivia’s. Olivia finds herself trying and failing not to be bitter that her younger sister is getting married before her. As the older sister, she feels a weight on her shoulders and doesn’t allow herself to feel her feelings, which impacts her relationship with her sister.

Her sister Marigold has to handle an urgent situation, so she can get married without a hitch. We follow her as she deals with a big secret she’s been keeping. Marigold struggles with who she is vs. who she feels she has to be.

Marigold relies a lot on her best friend, Natalie, who tends to let herself fall into the background and lets opportunities she wants pass her by. She scared to go after what she wants.

I didn’t really like the friendship between Marigold and Natalie but Natalie is exactly where she wants to be…so…

The book ended on a happy for now note, wrapping up how I was hoping it would, though it’s kinda wild how everyone remained on good terms and how easily everyone was able to make up.

I enjoyed all the self-reflections the leads did and how it impacted their decisions going forward. All of them were holding onto ideas in their head and built their realities around that instead of going after what they actually wanted or seeing what was there all along. There’s a lesson there.
